DEAR NEIGHBOR

As a former teacher, school principal, and advocate for children, I believe the key to the success of our children and community is access to quality public schools. As a product of public schools, I know they can work and give kids a path toward building their own success stories. When I was a teacher and a school principal, I woke every day with a core belief that education was liberation for the kids who walked into my classroom and school each day. I still believe the same today.

As a Black boy growing up in the Deep South, my family instilled in me the value of a strong education. As the first in my family to graduate college and earn a Ph.D., I know first-hand what can happen when great teachers, principals, and school staff come together to support student success. I’ve devoted my career to being part of that group for my students and their children. Now, I hope to be part of that community for children in this community.

I want to be clear--every child in Prince George’s County Schools needs to elevate the educational experience for every student in the district by expanding access to high-quality after-school programs, enhancing literacy rates, and improving overall school performance.

In addition, we need to Recognize the importance of attracting top-notch educators.

Just last year, our schools could not guarantee every kid they’d have a teacher waiting on them for the first day of school. I believe we can do better. Many teachers say they have to pick up a second job to make ends meet. That's not fair to the hardworking teachers who educate our children every day I know we can build a teacher pay system that ensures our teachers only have to work one job to put food on the table.

I see kids with no access to after-school programming that could enrich their lives, often leading them to make decisions none of us are proud of. We can build a system of high-quality after-school programming that gets every kid off the street.

I look forward to hearing from you about our schools. I believe we can build a school system that works for all families and I would love to hear what that means for you and your family. Together, we will build a world-class system for every kind in Prince George’s County Schools.

I look forward to your support and humbly ask for your vote to become your next School Board Representative for District 07.
